Why ObjectiveFS?

What is ObjectiveFS?

ObjectiveFS is a shared distributed POSIX file system that provides persistent data storage among your cloud instances, laptops, containers and office servers.

Your storage automatically scales to your workload and can be read and written from all your machines. There is no storage cluster to run and maintain. You only need two things:

ObjectiveFS is truly a great file system. For power-users like me, it is by far the best system for development I have ever seen. Abraham B, Data Science Engineer at A9.com

How it works

Our software runs on your machines and talks directly to the cloud object store using S3 API. You don't need to run or maintain any storage clusters or metadata servers.

To scale out, just mount your filesystem on the new machines. Now, all your machines can read and write to the same filesystem backed by the cloud object store. Updates from one machine are visible to all machines.

The speed is similar to a local disk. We use workload adaptive heuristics such as write bundling and read caching to implement high performance.

ObjectiveFS is architected with security in mind. Your data is encrypted locally, with a key known only by you, before it even leaves your server. ObjectiveFS uses cloud secure end-to-end client side crypto that is designed and implemented to be secure, even in multi-tenant VM environments.

Why should I use ObjectiveFS?

  1. You want to scale out Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, Magento or TYPO3.
Scaling up your content management system (CMS) is easy when you store your files on ObjectiveFS. Just spin up more cloud instances and mount your file system.

  2. You want your development environment both in the cloud and on your Mac.
You can update files locally on your laptop and the updates are seen by your development and test environments in the cloud.

  3. You want to run existing software in the cloud.
You don’t need to rewrite or port your existing software to run in the cloud. Your software and tools run directly on our POSIX cloud filesystem.

  4. You want hassle-free storage management.
You don’t need to set up, run and maintain storage servers to keep your data redundant, reliable and highly available. With ObjectiveFS, you offload the management of the storage backend to your cloud provider.

  5. You want to run both on-premise and in the cloud.
You can access the same data from your laptops, on-premise machines and cloud instances. ObjectiveFS provides a standard storage interface for your data stored in the cloud or on-premise. You can also move incrementally to the cloud, and use the cloud for part of your operations.

  6. You want to keep your data secure.
You are in complete control of your data with ObjectiveFS, as you are the only one with the encryption key. The use of strong end-to-end encryption keeps your data secure at rest and in motion.

What is new about ObjectiveFS?

  1. POSIX-compliant with a cloud backend. The standard POSIX semantics lets your regular unix tools run without modification, and provides consistency guarantees.
  2. Live distributed filesystem. All updates are visible to all computers and cloud instances.
  3. Supports multiple writers and readers. Multiple nodes (local computers or cloud instances) can write to the same filesystem concurrently and see each other’s data.
  4. No storage cluster needed. You don’t need to maintain a highly available redundant storage cluster.
  5. Always-on strong end-to-end encryption. Your data is secure by default, and is encrypted at rest and in motion.
